Picnic Table

PLANS AND FULL SIZE PATTERNS to build this Patio table. I hesitate to use the words "Picnic Table" because when I think of a picnic table, I have visions of those ugly things you find at parks and campgrounds. A picnic table typically weighs 200 pounds. Made from structural 2 by 6s that warp and twist in the first rain.

We as a group, set out to design an elegant patio table. Structurally strong, but easy to move around, large enough to seat 6, and still have room for the food! Well, This is what we came up with. The tabletop measures 44in. wide and 6 feet long. This is about a foot wider than traditional picnic tables. The angled, tapered legs add stability and look nice. The end caps prevent the boards from twisting and add a soft touch to the finished table.

The table shown here was built from cedar. Material costs can vary in different parts of the U.S.A.

Here is a COMPLETE list. You can check the material cost in your area.

(1) 2 x 10 x 6

(2) 2 x 4 x 10

(6) 2 x 6 x 12 or deck planks

(2) 2 x 2 x 8

(16) 4"carriage bolts with nuts and washers

1 tube of construction adhesive

1 lb. each 3" long deck screws

3"long finishing nails.

THE PLANS.....The Patio Table is easy to build using basic woodworking techniques. The plans have the material list, detailed 3D drawings of each piece, with step by step instructions and a 3D exploded assembly drawing. CAD designed for accuracy.

The patterns for the legs and cross pieces are full scale (not just showing the ends). The patterns for the tapered legs are together as a pair. This is so you can make one cut diagonally to get a pair of legs without wasting a bunch of material. Simply poke holes through the pattern with a ballpoint pen right onto the lumber. Connect the dots with a straight edge and saw. The screw holes are right on the patterns. After you cut out the leg pieces and cross pieces, you drill for ¼ dia carriage bolts. The whole thing falls together like a kit. Does anyone else have full scale patterns like this?

The plans/patterns is a professionally printed, genuine blueprint measuring 18in. wide x 6ft. 2in. long.
